Osh State University was founded on 24 May 1951 as Osh State Pedagogical Institute.

It achieved the status of the University on 17 June 1992. The city of Osh provides a unique setting for the urban campus of Osh State University.

At the heart of this picturesque city lies the Osh State University administrative campus, with the remaining departments located throughout the city. Osh State University is the leading educational, cultural, and scientific center of Southern Kyrgyzstan. The faculties of the University prepare specialists to respond to all the region’s needs. International Medical Faculty:

International Medical Faculty of Osh State University (OshSU), the educational flagship in Kyrgyzstan and a classical international university, is a member of the Shanghai Association of Universities.

The International Medical Faculty is the youngest unit of higher professional education at OshSU. An expedient and timely decision on the establishment of the faculty was taken by the Academic Council on August 29, 2015.

Faculty Targets:

To educate highly qualified medical specialists who are in high demand in labor markets of foreign countries and the Kyrgyz Republic, with competencies to carry out independent professional, scientific, and research activities; to prepare competitive and highly intelligent professionals with excellent abilities for self-development.
To internationalize the national medical education.
To establish partnerships with educational institutes of foreign countries for creating opportunities for students to participate in exchange programs and create networks, strengthening University status on an international level.
To enter the system of international scientific, informational and communicational space and also the group of leaders of main medical educational centers of our region.

The language of instruction on the faculty is English. There are 2 chairs and more than 40 academicians, including assistant professors and professors, among them – honored workers of Education, Science, and Health of the Kyrgyz Republic.

History of the University

The word evolution perfectly suits this esteemed university with a historical background that arose in 1939, In 1939, in the South of Kyrgyzstan in order to overcome the lack of teachers in schools and pedagogical training, the Institute for teachers in the city of Osh was opened. The Institute offered 2 years training program in History and Philology, Physics, Mathematics, Natural sciences, and Geography.

Osh State Pedagogical Institute (1951-1992)

On May 24, 1951, in accordance with the resolution of the Council of Ministers of the USSR, № 511-193 / 1 June 26, 1951, Osh State Pedagogical Institute was established.

In the 1955-1956 academic year, the first batch of students graduated from departments of German, Russian, English language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Specialty care.

In 1957 the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Kirghizia adopted a resolution, on the improvement of the material base for Osh State Pedagogical Institute. On the basis of this resolution, in 1961 a new campus was built.

The number of graduates increased year by year from Osh State Pedagogical Institute. In the 1970-1971 academic year, 269 Graduates, the Number of Ph.D. students had doubled to 112 from 16 ethnic nationalities.

At the end of the 1980s, the Institute’s faculty staff was 435, including 4 doctors of Sciences, Professors, 136 Candidates of Science, Associate Professors and Senior lecturers, and 295 Instructors.

Osh State University (1992 – Present)

To ensure the Socio-economic and cultural development in Southern Kyrgyzstan. On June 17, 1992, by the Decree of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Osh State University was established on the basis of the Osh State Pedagogical Institute. Mr. Bakyt Zholchubekovich Beshimov was appointed as the Rector of Osh State University and he worked in this position from 1992 to 1998. To ensure a rapid pace of development plus the training of highly qualified specialists to meet the requirements of the labor market, new faculties and departments are established History and Law (1992), the Kyrgyz and Uzbek Philology (1992), Medicine (1993), Theology (1993), Business and Management (1996).

Medical Faculty:

Medical faculty, Osh State University has been training foreign students since 1993. During the years of its existence Medical faculty, Osh State University has trained foreign students from more than twenty countries. At present more than 3500 students are studying at the Medical faculty, Osh state university including more than a thousand students from other countries like India, Pakistan, Nepal, Palestine, Syria, Turkey, Bangladesh, United States, United Kingdom, Maldives, and other countries. The medium of instruction has been English for foreign students and Russian for local students. Foreign Students have a choice to study in English medium or Russian medium.

On the completion of the course, the degree of M.D (Doctor of Medicine) is awarded, valid, and recognized all over the world.

Dear Applicants!

The international medical faculty, of Osh State University has been built on the excellent traditions established by the Medical faculty, Osh State University. These foundations are supported by our three primary missions, firstly to provide a first-rate education, secondly, to conduct quality research, and thirdly, to contribute to the advancement of the regional health services. We believe in forming a good habit of study for our students and using a problem-based learning teaching methodology with small class sizes so that in their practice of medicine they will be capable of grasping any problems they may encounter. Our curriculum is a functional systematic, which aims to present a wide range of views and ideas from the medical world.

As well as its commitment to education, International Medical Faculty, Osh State University is dedicated to pursuing quality research in both the basic field of research and the clinical field. In the clinical research field, the faculty has paid special attention to establishing prevention and cures for behavioral diseases, cancer, liver disease, and especially intractable infectious diseases which have been of most concern to people in the local area. In terms of basic research, the faculty has focused on epidemiological research to support its clinical research projects. This research has primarily looked into contagious diseases, allergies, and regenerative processes.

Regardless of how much we have tried to improve things with focused learning objectives, integrated courses, clinical experiences, and other attempts to make the burden more tolerable, the truth is you need to be prepared for the most difficult educational experience of your life. That said, the fact that you have been accepted to our medical school means that we believe you have what it takes to be successful. Here are some ways you can make that happen.

Go to class: Although there are some rare exceptions, there is a very close relationship between class attendance and success in medical institutions. Even though at times, you may think, your time would be better spent studying on your own, the evidence tells us this is not true for the vast majority of students. Consider your medical education like a job. Your pay is your successful grades. You would not expect to be paid if you did not show up for work, would you. Lastly, it is your professional responsibility to be where you are supposed to be when you are supposed to be there.

Use the Roadmap to Success: One of the most difficult things to figure out in medical education is, of all of the information that is thrown at you in your classes, which is the most important? This is often translated by students as “What’s going to be on the test?” The answer to this is; “It’s in the Learning Objectives (LO)”. Learning objectives are concise statements about the most important information being taught during the class you are attending. Usually, there are 3-5 LO for each teaching session. Every question you will be asked on our internal examinations is directly tied to a learning objective. Consequently, if you have a solid understanding of the LO for the courses you are taking, you cannot help but succeed. These learning objectives are found in the course syllabus and should be presented at the start of any teaching session. They are truly a roadmap to success.

See your Faculty Advisor: Our faculty is comprised of highly skilled, very experienced medical educators, many of whom have been through the very same experience that you are going through. Their advice is a gold mine for students. They know better than anyone how to advise you in your bid for successful completion of your medical education. In medical school, rumors abound. Your faculty advisor can help you understand what your responsibilities are, and how best to achieve your goals. Do not miss out on this opportunity.

Study Hard, Study Often: Successful medical students do not wait until the week before examinations to begin studying. The quantity of information and the level of understanding needed to get good grades in medical school make the concept of cramming a recipe for failure. Good students describe a consistent regimen of going to class, reading assignments, and studying for understanding, not simply memorization. A common mistake we see is students using review books or test question banks as their primary source of learning. Review books and test questions can be useful for reviewing already learned material, and testing your understanding, but will not work as a primary learning tool.

Well, if you find all of the above Do’s and Don’ts daunting, that would be normal. Despite the difficulty and rigor of medical education, it is an exciting and wonderful experience. I think back to my medical school experience with a great deal of nostalgia. There will never be another time in your life where your single responsibility will be to learn as much as you can. Take every advantage of it. It will pay off like nothing else you have experienced.
